The New Treetoes

So. As are aware, since you are reading this, Treetoes has a new look as well as a new web host.

I got tired of the hassle tending to my previous Treetoes website which was based on Wordpress and hosted by Godaddy. After spending several months researching and trialing a few alternatives such as Squarespace, WIX, and CreatorLink, I finally decided to go with Smugmug.

At this point I am very pleased with the change because I don't have to spend time tending to the Wordpress site. With very limited amount of free time I'd rather be working on my photography than my website. The new site also loads much faster because it is no longer hosted by Godaddy.

Although Squarespace is popular and quite heavily marketed I found the sparse, somewhat minimalistic template designs a bit limited and not to my taste. I then tried WIX which I liked a little better but still did not quite have the features and style I was looking for. A bit of research on Reddit turned up CreatorLink which I liked very much. I liked the basic template designs and the fact that I could tweak the underlying HTML and CSS code and implement a wide range of Bootstrap code snippets was a definite plus. I spent some time building out a site on CreatorLink and was about to switch over but before I made the commitment I felt I should give Smugmug a look. I've always been put off by the name but I am glad I made the effort to test with a 15-day trial. They are primarily focused on providing web hosting for photographers so it should be no surprise that everything works well.

If you're looking for a website to show off your own photos I would highly recommend giving Smugmug a look. You can sign-up for a free 15-day trial and if you like it as much as I do you can sign up with the following link and saved 20% on your first year.
